Rendell gave Torsella $500
Gov. Ed Rendell contributed $500 to the Senate campaign of Democrat Joe Torsella last month, according to campaign finance data released Thursday.
For weeks, party insiders had been saying that Torsella, the former National Constitution Center CEO and Rendell ally, would not be seeking the nomination unless he felt he was doing so with Rendell’s support. Asked in a recent interview with pa2010.com whether or not he had the Governor’s backing, Torsella declined to answer, hinting that his first campaign finance report would answer the question.
Indeed it did, showing that Rendell forked over $500 to the Torsella campaign on March 31. That means he hasn’t reached the legal limit of $2,400 and can still contribute more.
Torsella raised almost $600,000 from the start of the year through the end of March, almost all of that money coming in over the course of the last six weeks of the cycle.

Torsella is on a tear, and
could make Shapiro think twice
about entering the race. Of
course the three heavyweights
still loom on the sidelines.
