Toomey fires back on Club for Growth letter

Pat Toomey’s Senate campaign this afternoon responded to a letter Arlen Specter’s campaign released from Pa. Club for Growth founder Bill Parker that called on Toomey to step aside.

“Arlen Specter will promote anyone who will mimic his talking points, but what’s really notable is how many Pennsylvania Republican Members of Congress who supported Specter in 2004 are now coming out and saying they won’t support him this time,” Toomey spokesman Tim Kelly said in a statement. “Specter has clearly overstayed his welcome with Pennsylvania voters and these Congressmen understand that.

“In additon, the Senator’s support for the stimulus package has proven him a reliable vote for President Obama and Harry Reid to implement massive new spending programs,” Kelly added. “When asked today if Pat Toomey could be elected, Pennsylvania’s Republican State Party Chairman, Robert Gleason, said, ‘Of course he can be elected.’”
