A note of caution on my Meehan story

I just posted a story about Pat Meehan’s interest in running for Congress. I hear rumors about Meehan constantly. I published this one as opposed to others because I really do think my source on this is credible.

That being said, keep this in mind: Meehan wants to be governor. No one, Democrat or Republican, friend or foe, doubts that the Governor’s Mansion is where ultimately wants to end up.

The question, like so many things in politics, is about timing.

I don’t think Meehan will get out of the Governor’s race anytime soon. In fact, I’m not convinced he will at all. He wants to win, and Republican support for Tom Corbett aside, anyone who says he’s not a viable candidate doesn’t know Pat Meehan.

But the fact that he’s even thinking of running for Congress after all this really does illustrate the tough position he’s sort of fallen into, through not fault of his own.

It will be very interesting to see what happens next.

UPDATE: Meehan spokeswoman Virginia Davis gave friend-of-the-site John Micek a flat “no” when asked if her boss is considering a race, a step further than she went when we spoke. I’m sticking with my source on this. Remember, the story isn’t that he’s running, only that he’s seriously considering it. In the coming days, I’ll be looking to hammer down some more confirmation on this. In the meantime, I’m standing by the story.
