Health care, health care, health care

By BOB CASEY FOR SENATE

Dear Friend,

Last month, I asked you to send me your concerns, ideas, stories and tell me how I can best serve you in the Senate. We received thousands of responses ranging from policy ideas to personal stories. It took quite a while for my staff and I to go through them all!

I heard feedback about the economy and countless other issues. But there was one topic that came up more often than any other. Carole from Pike County summed it up nicely when she simply wrote: “Health care, health care, health care.”

I know what an important issue this is for families in Pennsylvania and all across the country. The stories you shared match what I hear every day from constituents who are ready for affordable health care to be available to all Americans.

President Obama has said he wants a health care bill written by the end of July, and I’m going to work hard to help make that happen. My seat on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee will give me the opportunity to make sure you have a voice in this fight.

I’m going to do it for people like Kristy from Chester County, who told me:

Next year, my husband’s employer will no longer be able to shoulder the burden of costs to offer its employees health care. It will fall to us, 100%. I simply don’t know how we can survive…

When you’re left without health insurance, every day you fear that you or someone you love will face a medical problem that will send your family into financial ruin.

If you already have health problems, the fear can be even worse. Just look at what Nancy from Crawford County wrote to me:

The anguish we suffered, thinking that we wouldn’t be able to afford the premiums to keep healthcare is indescribable. Fear is a terrible emotion. It takes over your life. I would like to believe that no American has to feel the fear of having no access to healthcare.

Nancy’s right. No one in America — the greatest country in the world — should have to feel that fear. That’s why I’m working every day on this.

Thank you so much for all the stories you shared. As I fight in the Senate for quality, affordable health care and other priorities, your words will always serve to remind me how personal these issues are.

Sincerely,

Bob Casey
