Live-blogging Specter at the Philly Dems dinner

PHILADELPHIA—Senator Arlen Specter will soon address the Philadelphia Democratic City Committee at its spring dinner. Stay tuned for more. Later, I’ll move this over to my blog.

6:35—Congressman Bob Brady (D-1), the party chairman, is introducing the down-ballot judicial candidates.

6:36—Brady introduces Specter to big applause, but wants bigger applause. “That’s not good enough,” he yells, prompting louder cheers.

6:37—Mayor Michael Nuter is speaking briefly.

6:38—Supreme Court candidate Jack Panella is speaking briefly about judicial candidates.

6:39—Brady introducing Specter as “someone who has the courage to stand up for what he believes in.” Loud applause.

6:40—Specter gets applause at mention of his vote for President Obama’s stimulus package.

6:41—”I’ve crossed party lines, as you know, to do what’s in the best interest of the people of Pennsylvania.”

6:42—Offers his help for constituent service, says he’s “comfortable as a Democrat.”

6:43—A brief speech. Finishes to applause. Opponent Bill Kortz says Brady wouldn’t let him speak. I’ll look into it.

6:44—Back to dancing and music. No more Specter.

6:45—Specter appears to have made a B-line for the door, leaving before the political mingling.
