Paper pushes Platts for Senate

The York Daily Record has another name to add to the mix of possible GOP Senate candidates—their hometown Congressman Todd Platts (R-19).

“Think about it,” the newspaper writes in an editorial today. “He kind of fits into that Goldilocks zone himself. During his days in the state Legislature, he was a maverick in his own party—much like Sen. Specter. He was not afraid to annoy party leaders with his willingness to vote his conscience, not the party line. In those days, some say, he was a moderate —if you consider the entirety of the political-issue spectrum.

“Rep. Platts has said he has higher political aspirations,” the paper says. “He has said he’d like some day to be president. The most likely launching pads for that goal are the Senate or the governor’s mansion. So why not run for Senate? He seems less extreme than the polarizing Toomey, but he still has strong conservative credentials. And if the vote were based on issues alone, Rep. Platts might be a good match for Sen. Specter.”

No way. This guy has no push in the state, isn’t very strong, and is a typical party repub. What credibility for this spot does he have?
