Biden to Callahan: White House supports you

Vice President Joe Biden spoke last week with Democrat John Callahan and pledged the support of the White House should he challenge Congressman Charlie Dent (R-15) next fall, the Bethlehem mayor told The Morning Call. Callahan recently approached state Democratic leaders about running for the seat.

Callahan said he spoke with the vice president while on vacation, and that Biden told him “he thinks it’s a great opportunity and [the administration would be] be supportive.” Callahan, who in past years twice turned down calls to run for Dent’s seat, said he also met recently with Gov. Ed Rendell.

Although he hasn’t decided whether to run yet, Callahan said he’ll have to make up his mind “relatively quickly.”
