‘No Whining,’ Gov. Rendell

The message of aWeb ad our Party launched today is simple and we hope Gov. Ed Rendell and his Democratic colleagues in Harrisburg are listening—No more spending, no furloughs, no tax increases, no whining!

See the ad, “No Whining,” embedded below. With the state facing over a $3-billion budget deficit during one of the worst economic environments our Commonwealth has ever faced, our Republican legislators passed a fiscally responsible piece of legislation that balances the state’s budget without raising taxes. As many Pennsylvania families have been forced to make tough decisions at home as they struggle to make ends meet, it seems ridiculous that Democrats are even considering increasing taxes which would result in taking more money out of hard working Pennsylvanians pockets and adding additional burdens on those families already making tough decisions in order to make ends meet.

The fact that the Republican-led Senate took the lead by proposing a fiscally responsible budget should come to no surprise to the Governor—especially after he warned everyone last year that there were going to be cuts and that he didn’t want to hear any “whining.” However, rather than work with the State Senate, Gov. Rendell instead chose to launch a campaign against fiscal responsibility proving that he is the biggest “whiner” of them all. In fact, Rendell seems less inclined to make cuts and he seems likely to support keeping spending levels close to their current levels and the words “tax increase” can be heard rolling off the tongues of practically every Democrat in Harrisburg.

The Governor’s arguments against a fiscally responsible budget don’t pass the smell test and I think he will find that most Pennsylvanians have a hard time believing that our state government can’t operate properly with $27.3 billion of our hard-earned dollars to spend.

The Republican Party of Pennsylvania will continue to fight the Democrats’ efforts to increase taxes and urge them to do the right thing and pass a fiscally responsible budget before the end of the fiscal year.
