Rep. Dahlkemper Announces $5 Million For Erie Airport Runway Project

By THE OFFICE OF CONGRESSWOMAN KATHY DAHLKEMPER (D-3)

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-3) today announced a Department of Transportation grant award of $5,161,287 for the Erie International Airport.  This funding will be used for Phases III and IV of the Runway 6-24 Improvement Program, acquiring land for approaches and extending the runway.

“I have made the completion of the Erie Airport’s expansion program a top priority in Washington,” said Rep. Dahlkemper.  “We have been working very hard with local airport administrators, the FAA, state officials and the U.S. Department of Transportation to ensure that this critical project continues to move forward without disruption or delay.   Erie’s economic growth and vitality is directly tied to the completion of this project.”

“This is indeed good news for the Erie International Airport as it will fund the next phase of our Runway 6-24 Improvement Program,” said Christopher L.  Rodgers, Executive Director for the Erie International Airport.  “This grant funding will allow the airport to move forward uninterrupted even after two consecutive years of only partial reauthorizations of the FAA’s Airport Improvement Program.  We thank Congresswoman Dahlkemper, the Department of Transportation and all those involved in helping the airport secure this critical discretionary funding.”

Rep. Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-3) has been working hard to secure the resources that Erie International Airport requires. She recently announced that the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will use $3,088,542.08 of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funding recently awarded to them from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to streamline baggage screening and enhance security capabilities at Erie International Airport and Philadelphia International Airport.
