Report: Callahan will take on Dent in PA-15

Bethlehem Mayor John Callahan has decided to run against Congressman Charlie Dent (R-15), in what could turn into one of the most competitive House races in the state and stiffer challenge than Dent has seen to date, The Morning Call reports.

Citing anonymous sources, the newspaper reported that Callahan is expected to make his decision official soon. Facing reelection but with no opponent in sight, Callahan had initially passed on the chance to take on Dent. But under heavy recruitment from national Democrats anxious to take the increasingly liberal-leaning district, including a call from Vice President Joe Biden, Callahan apparently had a change of heart.

His entrance into the race will set up a political battle in the Lehigh Valley sure to attract loads of national attention—and money.
