Dinniman won’t run for Congress; field seems clear for Pike

Looks like Doug Pike can start his general election campaign early.

State Senator Andy Dinniman (D-Chester) said Monday that he will not be running for Congress, making it all but certain that Pike will have the 6th District Democratic primary field to himself.

After Bob Roggio told pa2010.com last week that he wouldn’t run, Dinniman was the last remaining Democrat to be mentioned often as a potential primary challenger to Pike. But the longtime Chester County official told The Daily Local News that he’s staying put in the state Senate. He said he was happy in his current job, and also cited coming redistricting that could very well eliminate a district in 2012.

“If you ran in the 6th District, you would work hard to get elected, and then your district might disappear,” Dinniman told the newspaper.

With the backing of numerous local elected officials and the not-so-tacit support of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Commmittee, Pike, the former Inquirer editorial writer, now seems poised waltz through next year’s primary unopposed. State Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) and Chester County Recorder of Deeds Ryan Costello are seeking the GOP nomination. Incumbent Jim Gerlach is running for governor.

Let’s home the dems can win this one. Looks like Pike’s gonna have smooth sailing into the general. I wonder if there are any big(ger) fish the GOP can recruit?

So far it looks like the Republican establishment is looking for a more serious candidate than either Schroder or Costello.

The more the merrier in the Republican Primary. They’ll deplete their funds and blacken each others’ reputations.

State Rep. Matt Bradford would be the best choice.

    Phils Phan,

Bradford is a Democrat silly! That is unless he is thinking of switching parties. The only way the GOP wins this seat is with a moderate candidate, so maybe a party switcher is the way thy should go.
