Welch staffs up in PA-7

Republican Congressional candidate Steven Welch is beginning to build a campaign team for his run at the 7th District seat being vacated by Joe Sestak, and has hired a prominent media consultant, a pollster and a new media strategist, a campaign insider told pa2010.com Wednesday.

GOP political guru John Brabender will run the campaign’s media production. Brabender is also working for Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Corbett. The well-known Republican polling firm Public Opinion Strategies will be the campaign’s pollster. And Phil Musser, who was a senior adviser to Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign and runs Net Power Strategy, will be the campaign’s new media consultant.

“I am very fortunate to have such seasoned professionals join our team, and their proven track records on tough campaigns will help us bring back responsibility and accountability to Congress,” Welch says in a statement to be released later.

Welch, a wealthy Phoenixville businessman, is the only Republican to declare his candidacy thus far in the Delaware County district, which Republicans are determined to recapture after Sestak’s departure. State Representative Bryan Lentz (D-7) is seeking the Democratic nod.

The interest in the district is amazing.

Sestak came in Feb 2006 to beat 20-year incumbent Weldon.

Welsh is starting in August and staffing up with high-end consulting, before the Dems even have a candidate selected.

Seems like trying to swat a fly with an elephant gun in the Artic (where there are neither flies nor elephants). This might make sense if Welsh was running against Joe, but seems like overkill when no one is paying attention.

Once Sestak realizes the futility of his tilting at the Senate windmill, maybe he’ll leave the “Sestak party” and join the Democratic party to help the Dems hold the seat he abandoned.

More likely, he’ll spend the time with his wife and daughter in Virginia.

One wonders where this leaves Meehan. Does he go up against this or does he stay in Gov race. Think of it this way, he either goes against Corbett directly in the gubernatorial, or goes against Corbett by proxy in the 7th (via Bradender). Pat is definitely running against a growing Corbett machine. Unless he JOINS Corbett and runs as a SEPA Lt. Gov choice, which is what the poobahs may want, but no one knows if that what the burgeoning Corbett team wants….

The Republicans know they need a win in the 7th and they know they need a party makeover to do it. Steve Welch (official site: http://www.welchforpa.com) is just the kind of fresh face with a distinct story they are looking for. He doesn’t carry any political baggage but more importantly isn’t a dogmatic-right-wing nut job that plagues the Republicans. Don’t be surprised if you see the party get behind him on a national level.

    I absolutely second D’s sentiments.

And I dearly hope Meehan decides to enter this race. It will be the final straw that helps me decide to make it my life’s work to ensure Welch wins.

+ Big Money can fund his own campaign and buy media….But that doesn’t mean that he will do a good job.And I say that for either party.

    Otherwise -
1.) wet behind the ears. no political experience to know what a political baggage really means.Or know what the district wants or even what it contains.
There are Republican committee people who know more than him and have more experience.Republicans in Delaware County wait their turn in a pyramid like fashion. (They have what is called a political machine in place.)

Yet Jr.Jumps ahead of everybody else??? Steve you should have looked into Delaware Co. before you leapped into the race.

2.)sent $300 Dollars to Sestak: He will say two different things to two different people on this one. version one For Reps yea I send money but,in the end Joe Sestak let me down. And I’m glad it was just that $300 dollars.
2b.)Version two for Dems I’m not a bad guy “Hey,even I sent money to Joe Sestak and even voted for him when I knew he was the right man for the job. Not telling them about the dollar amount or any WORK that he did.

2.)Not a nut job well that just means that he is not a true Conservative is he folks. Look at the news about the health care town hall meetings. The GOP is not looking at least SOMEBODY like Glenn Beck everywhere? Or in the least follow the message of the day? Come on folks. And at worse Steve does try the conservative tack on his web site but ends up looking like CARDBOARD in end.

So you got big money but,are you really in for the money Steve. My point is your heart really in the right place for this? I mean are you just in it because health care is on the table and your looking at your profit margins at the end of the rainbow on the pending bill.

Your business has great health care befits it’s a fact pointed out in his own web site. This is great for them and your employees. But not the rest of us Steve why???? I even posted this question on his website and never got a reply.
