Ouch: Newspaper calls on Corbett to drop gubernatorial bid

Ouch: Newspaper calls on Corbett to drop gubernatorial bid

Well, that’s harsh.

State Attorney General Tom Corbett can’t be happy with The Leader-Vindicator in New Bethlehem. In an editorial Tuesday, the newspaper’s publisher said lashed out against his Harrisburg corruption investigation and said Corbett should abandon his campaign for governor.

“The investigation is going nowhere,” publisher Denny Bonavita wrote.

“Corbett is a big boy,” Bonavita continues. “He knew what he was getting into when he sought the attorney general’s job. He knew that some aspects of that job could boost his political career afterward—or damage it. We think Corbett owes it to the taxpayers who have paid his salary to stay with the investigation until it concludes, or until his term ends. And, to make it clear that the investigation was not political in nature, Corbett should withdraw his name from consideration as a candidate next year for governor.”

Something tells me Corbett won’t take the advice to heart.

I’m just curious if Mr. Bonavita was as critical of Sen. Casey leaving office as Treasurer or Auditor General.

Yeah, not too sure about that one… Gerlach and Corbett is an interesting race to me. Gerlach got endorsements from Shuster and English in the west, wich interests me. What impact will those have? Corbett is statewide, thats 4 darn sure and i think it is going to be him and Dannie O in the battle of Pittsburgh in one of the greatest election races we’ve seen in along time.

Not sure I follow. Does this newspaper realize that candidates often don’t serve out terms when seeking higher office. Take our President for example.

yeah not sure about that one. What do u make of these endorsements of gerlach by english and shuster. Thats some big brass isnt it for the west? Corbett is state wide, i think we’ll see him and Onorato in the finals.

I still think Corbett will win the primary regardless of those endorsments. To be honest I wouldn’t be suprised to see Knox win the dem primary because Wagner and Onorato might split votes in the west.
