Ryan Costello Officially Announces Candidacy for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 6th District

By RYAN COSTELLO FOR CONGRESS

PHOENIXVILLE, PA – Citing his concerns about the growing federal budget deficit and the threat of increased federal taxes on the middle class, attorney Ryan Costello officially announced today that he will run for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 6th Congressional District.  Costello, a resident of Phoenixville, serves as Recorder of Deeds in Chester County and is the former Chairman of the East Vincent Township Board of Supervisors.
“Like many of my friends and neighbors, I am deeply concerned with the direction the Democrat controlled House and Senate are taking our country,” said Costello.  “In the first half of this year we witnessed skyrocketing federal spending, huge taxpayer funded corporate bailouts, and rising unemployment rates.  Now Obama Administration officials are raising the possibility of middle class tax increases to fund a major health care overhaul that could jeopardize our access to quality health care.”
“I am angered by stories of Senators and Representatives in Congress who vote on legislation such as billion dollar stimulus packages and a comprehensive restructuring of our nation’s health care system without even reading the legislation,” said Costello.  “We deserve better from our elected officials in Washington, DC than the blind following of party leaders.”
“Since Congressman Gerlach’s announced his intention to run for Governor, I have spoken to many local residents about my concerns,” said Costello.  “They agree that we need more independent voices in office, individuals who can help restore fiscal sanity to Washington, DC, individuals who can work in a bi-partisan manner, individuals who will support or oppose an issue based on its merits, not pressure from special interest groups.  I will be that voice – the voice of reason — that the people of the 6th District need and deserve in Congress.”
Costello said that thanks to his volunteer work on each of Congressman Gerlach’s Congressional campaigns, he knows that it will take hard work, energy, and commitment to earn the support of the diverse range of voters in the 6th District.
“There is no doubt in my mind that I am in tune with the voters of this district and their position on the issues.” said Costello.  “We need independent thinkers who will seek to find the middle ground, work together, and who will support commonsense solutions to the problems facing our nation, not tout the party line, and most importantly not raise taxes as a way to remedy runaway spending and government waste.”

Costello is a graduate of Owen J. Roberts High School, Ursinus College, and Villanova Law School and an attorney with the law firm of O’Donnell, Weiss & Mattei, P.C., where he practices in its real estate and business departments.  During his eight years as an elected official, he has never voted for a tax increase, and had a strong environmental record as a local official.

Costello commented he will be filing the necessary paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission next week to formally become a Congressional candidate.
