O’Brien files for run against Kanjorski

Lackawanna County Commissioner Corey O’Brien took another step toward a primary run against Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-11) this week, when he filed FEC papers forming a campaign committee.

O’Brien, who has called Kanjorski’s initial vote against President Obama’s stimulus package insulting, has been making noise about challenging Kanjorski since the spring. His latest action was first reported by CQ Politics. It remains unclear when a formal announcement will come.

Kanjorski, who was widely considered the most vulnerable Democrat in Congress last year, squeaked by Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta thanks in part to a wave of support for Obama in November. The longtime incumbent has yet to signal whether or not he’ll run again.

If Kanjo runs, he will beat O’Brien by about 30-40 points in the primary. Kanjo isn’t my favorite pol, but he is very popular among local Dems.

    Hey “Kanjo”

    Very popular among local Dems?

When was the last time you spoke with local Dems?

I am one, I freaking WORKED for Kanjorski, I like the guy…but I’m behind O’Brien, and so is my whole family.

O’Brien is a very serious challenge for Kanjo, and if Kanjo weren’t worried about it, why did he go out of his way to invite Mike Washo to Washington for Obama’s speech last week?

Kanjorski will be the underdog for re-election if he gets a primary challenger and a general election challeger

You’re full of it. Incumbents always should, and always do win. Stop tilting at windmills, be loyal and support the old man. He’s earned your respect and support. He’s been working for the district since O Brien was soiling diapers. Now this snot-nosed kid wants to take on Knajo???
