Schroder camp notes Welch’s residency, but doesn’t criticize

State Representative Curt Schroder’s (R-Chester) campaign made sure to point out that its newest opponent doesn’t actually live in the 6th District Saturday, but stopped short of an outright attack on that front.

In a statement following Republican Steven Welch’s announcement that he’ll run for Congress in the 6th instead of the 7th, Schroder instead focused on his own background in the district, simply referring to Welch as a “7th District resident.”

“The 6th Congressional District was always expected to be a hotly contested race,” Schroder said. “The interest of Republican candidates from across the state proves how competitive it will be. Over my 15 years in the State Assembly I have been a consistent advocate for fiscal restraint and I have the record to prove it. The support and encouragement I have received for my candidacy from voters in the 6th Congressional District has been
overwhelming.

“I am confident that my record and my broad support across the district will carry me through the primary,” Schroder added.

Republican Ryan Costello, who is also seeking the party’s nomination, took a similar tone.
