Rasmussen: Toomey tops Specter by 5, but even with Sestak

Congressman Joe Sestak (D-7) has another piece of ammunition in his argument that he’s the better candidate to take on Republican Pat Toomey next year.

A Rasmussen poll released Wednesday showed Sestak in a dead heat with Toomey, leading by a statistically insignificant one percent. But Senator Arlen Specter trailed Toomey by five points in the same survey.

The poll of 1,200 likely voters, conducted Tuesday, showed Toomey winning 45 percent of the vote if he faces Specter, who garnered 40 percent. Nine percent were undecided.

In a matchup with Sestak, Toomey trails 38 percent to 37 percent, but with almost a fifth of voters undecided.

The survey  had a margin of error of 3 percent.

As expected, and I predicted. They show Toomey further ahead than other polls. AND they are trying to make Sestak look like the tougher opponent, when the Toomey campaign has made it obvious that Sestak is the opponent they want to face.

Once health care passes, the Dem’s numbers are going to go up, so the Toomey vs XXX numbers are going to move a lot.

Rasumussen is doing his job of pumping up (propping up) GOP to make Toomey look better for fundraisers. Kudos.

Tomorrow’s Specter-Sestak numbers will be more relevant, though no less skewed.

Sestak is at this point the stronger general election candidate. Specter just can’t seem to get above 44% of Democrats and his reelect numbers are in the basement. It’s time to ditch grandpa and line up behind the candidate who can actually win the general.

Many in the GOP now revile Arlen Specter and some always did. I remember the young, tough and unowned Arlen Specter. I can’t recall the poet or poem but I recall a line that goes something like ‘look upon my works and despair.’ That is Arlen … a toppled, broken statue in the desert, past his prime and past his time. It is sad. Shanin should take him aside and show him some retirement properties in Boca.

The Toomey campaign made it obvious they wanted to
oppose Specter in the primary? Specter made the move.

    GOPHAWK:
The poem is Ozymandias, by Percy Shelley.

    GOPHawk-
It’s not surprising to find a neocon knowing a quote, but not understanding it or the context.

In the poem, Ozymandias is a former ruler and braggart, boasting about how impressed the mightiest of future rulers will be impressed by his accomplishments, and statues/monuments (which have now all crumbled to dust).
Ozymandias is not a match for Specter. Rather, the best modern equivalent is Dick Cheney boasting about his torture policies.
