Rohrer, other area lawmakers endorse Schroder in PA-6

Several area state lawmakers on Monday through their support behind state Representative Curt Schroder’s (R-Chester) 6th District congressional bid, underscoring that Schroder could find his strongest insider backing from his Harrisburg colleagues.

In a statement, Schroder’s campaign announced endorsements from state Representatives Tim Hennessey; Chris Ross; Sam Rohrer; Jim Cox; Doug Reichley; Kate Harper and Michael Vereb.

“I am pleased and honored to have the support of colleagues who know me well and have worked with me on many efforts to improve our region” Schroder said.

Schroder faces a crowded Republican primary against businessman Steven Welch, Chester County Recorder of Deeds Ryan Costello and former Thornburgh administration Revenue Secretary Howard Cohen.

It will be interesting to see what endorsements Welch lines up. I am guessing the pattern will be Schroder gets the endorsement of anyone with experience legislating, Welch gets endorsements from people who largely have not ever successfully run for any office anywhere but like to think they pull strings– Yes, that includes you, Meehan!, Costello gets endorsements from a handful of people in Chester County who know him personally, and Cohen gets an endorsement from Arlen Specter. Although out of loyalty to others with the courage to change parties at politically convenient times, Arlen may come out for Welch.

The local press will have a hard time deciding between Welch and Cohen.

Karl are you endorsing Welch based on the standard you laid out above? ;)

This is not really surprising news. Rep Schroder’s campaign finance reports reveal alot of support from his fellow legislators and other parties / PACs with interests in Harrisburg.

One surprise in this news is the support from Rep Vereb. I was under the impression that a) he did what the Montco Chair wanted him to do and b) was a union man (given Rep Schroder’s strong opposition to card check).

This is going to shape up to be the most interesting primary and general in the area for quite some time.

Imagine that. Career politicians endorsing another career politician. No real surprise there. Birds of a feather . . . .
