Dueling radio ads in the 15th District

The race in the 15th Congressional District is heating up, as both parties take to the air to fight for a seat that Democrats are determined to capture and Republicans are looking to hold.

The National Republican Congressional Committee went up with a radio-ad styled as a “Night Before Christmas” poem about 2002.

The ad starts: “Twas two nights before Christmas, when in Bethlehem, John Callahan was voting, again and again. An increase he supported, on property tax. A five point five percent increase, he surely did pass.”

Meanwhile, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee put out an ad hitting Dent for a more recent vote.

Congressman Dent voted to let Wall Street continue the same risky practices that crippled retirement accounts and left taxpayers on the hook for $700 billion dollars,” it says. “And he voted to allow the big banks to pay high rolling executives unchecked compensation and bonuses.”

After Democratic leaders recruited Callahan to run against Dent, the race is expected to be one of the most competitive in the state.

I really like that the Democrats are still on offense, even as they look to defend a bunch of seats.

Dems are whistling past the graveyard – 2010 will be a disaster for them, and Callahan is an incredbly weak candidate. The Democrrat money will have to go to defend vulnerable seats – not wasted on a futile battle with a popular incumbent.

Hmm, I’d like to know how popular Dent really is. This is a Democratic trending district, and Callahan is a very strong challenger, recruited personally by Biden. It’s a top tier pickup opportunity, and one of the DCCC’s top priority races. Dent looks really weak going up with his robocall campaign this early. Totally overreaching on the negative campaigning.
