Pike says he was running against Gerlach to begin with

With Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) abandoning his gubernatorial aspirations and maybe running for reelection, Democrat Doug Pike reminded voters Thursday that he had planned to run against Gerlach when he first got into the race anyway.

“I got into this race 9 months ago to beat him because the working families of the 6th District deserve better,” Pike said in a statement. “They deserve a Congressman who will fight for them, not just another Republican obstructionist who will stop at nothing to slow down, water down, or stop the change we voted for in 2008.

“I will use my voice and my vote to move our nation forward with sound ideas, not knee-jerk obstruction,” Pike added. “Unlike Congressman Gerlach, I will fight for health care reform and job creation, and I will work to put an end to the Bush-Gerlach fiscal irresponsibility that got us into this mess in the first place. I got into this race to beat Congressman Gerlach and bring a new vision of leadership to the 6th District. Over the past 9 months, we have built a massive base of support that will carry us through to victory: we have the support of 14 labor unions, over 1300 contributions, and a warchest of over $1,100,000.”

Pike faces Reading doctor Manan Trivedi and Lower Merion Township Commissioner Brian Gordon in the Democratic primary.

Yeah. Check out Open Secrets. Pike put in $600,000 + of his own money and 90 % of his contributors are out of state. He is his own little “grassroots” movement.;)

Does Dougie know that he has to win the primary first? Or maybe he will inherit a primary win as well.

So how long until Gordon and Trivedi drop out and endorse Pike for party unity?

The real question is how long is it going to take Trivedi to realize that this whole Gerlach thing is even going on tonight. I suppose not being on top of breaking news is a byproduct of firing your original campaign staff, hiring a new staff, and then firing them too. Dr. Trivedi…paging Dr. Trivedi………(crickets)
