Corbett still up over Dem opponents
UPDATE APPENDED (See bottom)
With the free Bonusgate publicity still flowing, Attorney General Tom Corbett continues to lead his potential Democratic rivals for governor, according to a new poll.
The Research 2000 survey released Friday showed Corbett, the likely GOP nominee, holding at least a six-point lead over each of the four Democratic candidates. But almost half of voters still don’t have an opinion of Corbett, in yet another sign that his lead in the polls may be more a reflection of anti-Democratic sentiment than any particular strength for Corbett.
Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato still leads the pack of Democrats, garnering the most support in a primary, according to the poll, and trailing Corbett by only six in a November matchup, with 26 percent of voters undecided. Corbett leads Montgomery County Commissioner Joe Hoeffel by 10 points, Auditor General Jack Wagner trails by nine points. The late entrant into the race, state Senator Anthony Williams (D-Philadelphia), garners only 19 percent of the vote in a race against Corbett, who gets 47 percent.
With significantly more campaign cash than his rivals in either party, Onorato remains well-positioned to break away from the pack when he begins airing TV ads.
The survey of 600 likely voters, commissioned for the liberal Web site Daily Kos, had a margin of error of four percent.
UPDATE: In June 2010, Daily Kos disavowed all polling data provided by Research 2000, alleging fraud. As of July 2010, Research 2000 had denied wrongdoing but taken down its Web site.

If Pa. voters elect Tom Corbett as gov, they truly have no one but themselves to blame. Terrible, terrible choice. Yeesh, you would think we could have a “real” candidate running to lead this state but there is NO ONE qualified. No one.

BB, do YOU have an alternative? Who should we elect, Disco Dan Onorato? A crazy leftist like Joe Hoeffel? The only Democrat even worth listening to what he has to say is Jack Wagner. Corbett will win, just as Toomey will. The Commonwealth wants change, and the Democrats are simply offering more of the same.

I’m wondering why Corbett is getting any support at all seeing as how his only policy position seems to be as a prosecutor. I’m also wondering is John Perzel will throw money into the race against Corbett. Corbett does share something with Toomey: they’re both empty suits.

No, Tom, there are NO ALTERNATIVES that is the problem in this state. None of the candidates are worthy of being governor of Pa. We have no leaders only bureaucrats. All of the candidates are worried about themselves first, their constituents second. ZERO LEADERSHIP. We need to abolish the two party system, allow independents and other party candidates to run without all of the red tape needed to get on the ballot. We need to CHANGE THE CULTURE in Pa.

BB is correct about the need for “culture change.” Both major political parties are equally bankrupt, because they are beholden to special intrests and career hacks. That said, the only way that the democrats have a chance against Corbett is if that lunatic bigot Metcalfe becomes his running mate – a distinct possibility as the only Lt. Governor candidate from Western PA. It is a shame that that the Republicans have so little talent. Jack Wagner is the most logical Democrat candidate, but the reactionary forces led by Ed Rendell and the usual suspects in the financial community are pushing Onorato, just as they are pushing Specter, because that is where their bread is buttered. Too bad for the Democrats and too bad for the public when Corbett and Toomey win; it did not have to be. But maybe that is good for us independents who are hoping that people will one day wake up and rise above these corrupt and ethically bankrupt political parties.

Like the Presidential election in 2008 the lessor of 2 evils will prevail. It’s a shame we have no other candidates for governor. Cops running the government what a police state. and to think they target the Democrats for political gain. What a sham
