Metcalfe calls himself an ‘accountability’ candidate
A day after surprising political watchers by filing nominating petitions to run for Lieutenant Governor, state Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Butler) formally declared his candidacy with a pledge to “redefine” the office and even hold his future boss accountable.
Metcalfe, one of nine Republicans seeking the party’s nomination, is a conservative stalwart whose presence in the race is expected to shake up the political landscape of the crowded field.
“I will work throughout the four-year term to assist the Governor in advancing policies that cut the excessive spending, reduce taxes and protect the liberties of Pennsylvanians,” Metcalfe said in a statement. “If the Governor, like so many politicians, breaks his word and raises taxes, supports more government programs that redistribute the hard earned dollars of taxpayers or signs laws that infringe on our rights, then I will be ready to challenge the Governor in the next primary election.”
It was a characteristically defiant and populist note on which to start his campaign, by a lawmaker who has been identified by The Post-Gazette as the General Assembly’s No. 1 conservative.
“Throughout state history,” Metcalfe said, “regardless of party affiliation, the office of Lt. Gov. has been at best a silent partner to the Governor, and, at worst, an all-too-willing accomplice as the Executive Branch has trampled the rights of the individual citizen to pursue its own power-grabbing agendas. This includes picking the pockets and bank accounts of hard-working Pennsylvania taxpayers to pay for someone else’s health care, bus fare and excessive public welfare.”
Bucks County Commissioner Jim Cawley was endorsed by the Republican State Committee for the office last month.

Mr. Metcalfe doesn’t believe in the First Amendment. He called veterans “traitors” for simply voicing their opinion on the necessity for clean energy legislation.

Mr. Metcalfe is a coward. He did not announce his candidacy for Lt. Governor so that he could also run for State Representative without a primary opponent. If people knew in advance that he was seeking both seats, he would have been exposed and most certainly drawn a primary opponent for his house seat. He knows he has no shot at winning the Lt. Gov. nomination so he needed a fall back position. His statewide candidacy will merely be a fundraising expedition; attempting to raise money from conservatives that are fooled by his diatribes. He was soundly defeated in his attempt to become Appropriation Chairman and thus denied the platform to raise funds and launch his further career. Mr. Metcalfe could learn a lesson in professionalism from individuals such as Mr. Cawley and Mr. Adolph and others he denigrates whom he perceives to be in his path to greatness.

Is this the disrespectful individual who called me and my fellow combat veterans “traitors” for our desire to secure America thru clean energy? And he wants to do WHAT? Take another oath to defend our nation’s and Pennsylvania’s constitutions? He’s a domestic enemy, as far as I’m concerned. We should be embarrassed to have such a “representative” serving.

Daryl Metcalfe is most definitely independent of the party leadership.
Clean Energy Green Energy subsidies are not cost effective and are subsidies to politically active groups. The State is going bankrupt and we do not have the money for more expensive programs that spend more than they produce.

Hey Bob weren’t you suppose to be the candidate?

Daryl Metcalfe is our best hope for bringing accountability to Harrisburg. He has my vote and my support.
BTW, P.O’Neil, Daryl is not a coward at all. Have you ever met the man? Name calling is a trademark of Liberals who cannot argue with intelligence.

Jeff,
I think Daryl is a coward as well. He kept hidden his intention on running statewide from everyone. Makes an announcement in Harrisburg not his home district because he does not have the balls to face his base.

P-P, I think your confusing cowardice with intelligence. Why not announce his campaign in Harrisburg? Isnt that where the Lt. Governor’s office is located?

With his continuous over-the-top anti-gay, anti-immigrant, anti-union escapades for the past several years, all pandering to the loony religious right vote, how can anyone claim they were surprised when Metcalfe finally announced a statewide candidacy?
