Specter gets PSEA nod

The largest education union in the state endorsed Senator Arlen Specter’s reelection Tuesday, as the biggest names in the state’s organized labor community continued to align behind the longtime incumbent.

The Pennsylvania State Education Association, which represents 191,000 teachers and other education workers in the state, had backed Specter’s candidacy in three previous elections before doing so again Tuesday.

“Pennsylvania’s students and public schools have always been able to count on Senator Specter’s support, and we are eager to support his reelection,” association president Jim Testerman said in a statement. “Senator Specter throughout his career has consistently supported the cause of increased federal support of public education.

Specter has now been endorsed by over a dozen major union organizations, representing almost half-a-million voters.
