Barletta claims $500K raised, ahead of ’08 pace
Republican Lou Barletta says he’s ahead of where he was last time around in the fundraising game.
Barletta’s 11th District congressional campaign said Monday that it has raised more than half-a-million dollars since entering the race late last year. More details will be disclosed in campaign finance reports filed later this week. But the campaign said it was on the right track to beat incumbent Congressman Paul Kanjorski (D-11), after falling short against him in 2002 and 2008.
Kanjorski’s campaign had yet to disclose its second-quarter fundraising haul Monday afternoon. And Barletta’s campaign did not provide an estimate for how much cash it has in the bank. But Kelly said the money raised so far came from more than 10,000 individual donors, and noted that Barletta has a fundraiser scheduled next week with former New York mayor and one-time presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani.
“Lou Barletta has said all along that if he raises $1 million, he will win this election,” campaign spokesman Shawn Kelly said in an e-mail to reporters. “So far, we’re ahead of where we need to be in terms of that goal, so Lou is confident his campaign will have the resources we need to win.”

Last time out, his primary campaign committee had raised @$518k at this point in the campaign. Apparently, he hasn’t specified how much more than $518k he has raised, and he hasn’t specified how much of this money he is legally obligated to use to retire debt. (Of course, most of his debt is to himself, so he could round-trip the money back to his campaign.)
We’ll see what Kanjo has, but I’m guessing it will be a disappointment.
Long and short, I don’t think money will be the decisive factor this time around.
