LEFTOVERS: Inky on Corbett, NRCC on Rothfus, Catholics United for Dahlkemper
Looks like The Inquirer wants Tom Corbett to “quit his day job.” Philly’s paper of record published an editorial Wednesday calling for the Republican attorney general to step aside and focus on his gubernatorial bid, citing that pesky confluence of politics and public life.
“It’s nearly impossible lately for the public to separate Corbett’s law enforcement duties from his role as the GOP nominee for governor,” the paper wrote. ” Increasingly, his actions as attorney general are tinged with political ramifications for the November election.”
Whether these editorial writers are correct on the merits or not is for others to judge. But we’re not holding our breath waiting for a resignation press conference.
Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee made some changes to its “Young Guns” program for tracking congressional challengers. Most notably in the Keystone State, the NRCC added 4th District candidate Keith Rothfus to the program, starting him on the first tier of the program, also known as “On the Radar.” In the 3rd District, Mike Kelly was elevated to “Contender” status, one away from being an actual Young Gun. A hat-tip to our friends at The Hill for flagging this one.
And the group Catholics United said Wednesday that it’s preparing to spend half-a-million bucks to defend members of Congress who supported the recently enacted health care reform law. Among those the group will help is Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-3). It remains unclear exactly how much paid media will go into this campaign and how much Dahlkemper will benefit. But hey, every dollar counts. “Catholics and other people of faith are frustrated by the dishonesty of many political operatives who oppose reform of our nation’s outdated economic and social policies,” Chris Korzen, Catholics United’s executive director, said in a statement. “Instead of an open and honest dialogue about how best to meet the challenges of the 21st century, these groups are engaging in scare tactics and misusing the language of faith to score cheap political points and lead voters astray.”

The Inquirer is a dying newspaper infested with left-leaning, out-of-the-mainstream writers. Does anyone care what they think?

Testy, testy, Adam. What fun it will be to watch your Democrat candidates drown in a voter backlash tidal wave of their own creation. All your lefty utopia dreams destroyed in one day: November 2. Normal people almost feel bad for you. Almost.

1994, you might want to go down a little further in that polling data and note the high disapproval ratings (and relatively low approval ratings) Republicans get on the job they’re doing in Congress and as a party in general. The public isn’t really feeling the love for them either.
Additionally, there are numerous polls out there that continually show that, despite disapproval, the public still trusts Obama and the Democrats on issues such as health care and the economy, issues Republicans are trying to run on this year, more than they trust Republicans.
And finally, I hate to break it to you, but the 2006 and 2008 elections were referenda on how well the American public felt the GOP was handling things, and you lost.

Dream on, Tammy. The Dems can’t even reach 40% in the congressional head-to-head question in this poll. Your party has controlled Congress for four years and voters clearly aren’t pleased with what you’ve done. Obama has hit an all time low in polling. The election is three and a half months away. You guys are toast.

Oh those dirty liberals who write in the Inquirer, Dick Santorum, the bush war criminal John Yoo, Charles krauthammer and the always entertaining Kevin Ferris. Oh my mistake their all a bunch of right wing nut jobs like Toomey and the delusional ranter 1884 Again.

I’m wondering how that Chris Korzen can talk about honesty and Obama in the same sentence, with a straight face.
“Instead of an open and honest dialogue about how best to meet the challenges of the 21st century, these groups are engaging in scare tactics and misusing the language of faith to score cheap political points and lead voters astray…”
Is he serious????

The Moonbat Healy again flutters about, hysterically flapping his wings about “bush war criminals.”
Will he fly to France when Toomey wins the election?

1994 and Pat-
Please don’t make me come to Healy’s defense. He got some bad Sestak Kool-Aid.
However, on the merits of the conversation, the Left complains that the Inquirer has a right-leaning editorial board/publishing trend.
The Inky editorial almost sounds like they want to help Corbett and are trying to do an intervention.
1994, while this year will most likely see big gains for the GOP in Congress, it is still VERY different from 1994 when they took over. Last time they had a penned a “Contract with America”. It was a lot of crap, but people bought into it.
Now, the GOP is just the party of “NO”. (No ideas, either)
The Republicans caused the economic collapse and they are going to have a difficult time selling the the idea of repeating the policies that caused the problems. Their latest effort to hold back unemployment insurance for millions of people may be remembered in the voting booths come November.

The mood of the nation and pa in particular is anti incumbent and Corbett’s exploitation of his office is viewed by many as a example of using public service as an opportunity for petty self serving personal aggrandizement. Moreover, aside from parroting the RNC talking points de jour and strident right hate message what exactly does he stand for. How will he balance the budget in Pa, what programs will he cut, who will he lay off etc.
It is cynical if now down right sleazy for him to campaign 24/7, 365 and then take credit for his career staff’s prosecutions as his work product, then when when his own hooked up “peeps” like the creepy Ories ( including those on his payroll) and selectively ignored criminal conduct of friendly public officials and allowed to prosper in their lawlessness makes the case for him to get off the taxpayers back ( and out of our pockets) and go “all in” running for office or at least man up and admit that he has been on a two year vacation running for Gov.

Gee pat I was too busy in the USMC to join your hippie parties. the fact remains that John Yoo is a war criminal. If Toomey is elected I’ll move to Greece, they will have a more stable economy than the US if the GOP gets their hands on the controls again. Thankfully Joe Sestak should mop up the floor with the right wing dirivitive trading wall st bankers pet legislator.

Congress has piss poor approval ratings because everyone that runs for Congress (Incumbent or Challenger, Democrat or Republican) is constantly bashing the institution as out of touch and corrupt. This has been a tenant of American Congressional campaigning for the last four decades. It makes me sick.
If the people running for office don’t have faith in the ability of Congress to fix America’s problems than why are they running for Congress? Why do they so desperately want to become part of an institution that they publicly disparage?
Another reason that Congress has such poor approval ratings is because the American people do not understand the law making process in Congress. Ironic considering that law making in Congress today is more transparent today than at any other time in the history of the Republic. It seems to me that the American people grow dumber and dumber with every election cycle.

1884 Again I guess you didn’t notice that we don’t vote nationally on our representatives, national polls are meaningless in terms of projecting local congressional and senatorial election winners.

Hapless Healy, I guess you didn’t notice that we vote for our state and national elected officials and the Dems are far behind in Democrat PA. Your beloved Sestak is hovering around 40% in a state with 1.2 million more Democrats. Ditto for Onorato. It’s a horrible political environment for Democrats. Voters are about to hand Democrats major defeats around the country in a few months and you don’t even realize it.
Send us a postcard from Greece. I’m sure the Greeks will enjoy your pleasant demeanor as much as we do.

You know, it’s amazing – much like those in our culture who are best classified as racists like to see themselves as the civil rights activists while those who’ve fought for and defended equality are actually the bigots, those who constantly feel the need to bash and bully anyone who sees things differently from them somehow see themselves as being “pleasant” while those of us who honestly would like to live civil lives and treat our fellow citizens as human beings rather than animals are categorized as the “unpleasant.” Mind boggling what a rich fantasy life will do for you.

You know, it’s amazing – much like those in our culture who are best classified as socialists like to see themselves as traditional Democrats while those who’ve fought for and defended higher taxes and bigger government are actually the real Democrats, those who constantly feel the need to bash and bully anyone who sees things differently from them somehow see themselves as being “mainstream” while those of us who honestly would like to live civil lives and treat our fellow citizens as cash cows for expanding government programs rather than human beings are categorized as “delusional.” Mind boggling what a rich fantasy life will do for you.

I wish we could cut 1994 again out of the Social Security and Medicare Systems. As soon as this old goat hits 65 he’ll be howling if someone attempts to take away his benefits. It’s comical to watch Republicans disparage big government yet wholeheartedly support our stupid, bloated, big government military. Trolls.

1994 Again said “Does anyone care what they think?” Well, you obviously care what the Inquirer thinks, or else you wouldn’t have wrote the first response to this item. Having NO opinion is what is most detesting to the media. They want you to either approve or disapprove, simply react and they win. By not reacting, they lose. In this case, they won and you lost in terms of running that editorial to solicit feedback, good or bad. You took the bait.
