LEFTOVERS: ‘Fumocrats’ for Meehan, Payton backs Onorato, Pike still wants a pledge
March 14, 2010 at 2:35 pm
A few things slipped by us toward the end of the week.
Apparently former U.S. Attorney Pat Meehan is getting some help from friends and allies of the man he helped put in prison, the convicted Vince Fumo. The Philadelphia Daily News reports on a few “Fumocrats” who have given to Meehan’s 7th District congressional campaign, including former Philly mayoral candidate Martin Weinberg and former City Controller Thomas Leonard.
Meehan’s allies says…

Reporters on the ground from Plymouth Meeting to Latrobe, and we still managed to miss plenty on Thursday.
Senator Arlen Specter will be formally rolling out his committee of major supporters within the LGBT community on Friday, in what his campaign is calling SpecterPride. The 68-member group includes Mark Segal, publisher of the Philadelphia Gay News. “No other elected official in all of Pennsylvania has such a long record of accomplishments on LGBT issues as…

LATROBE—Good evening, political junkies. We’re out here again in western Pennsylvania, along with pa2010.com reporter John Manganaro, to bring you the play by play of the Republican Party’s nominating convention for the special election in the 12th Congressional District.
We’ve also got a correspondent in Plymouth Meeting tonight for the Montgomery County Democratic Committee’s endorsement meeting, so if you check out our Twitter feed, you might just get some updates about that,…
Full StoryA labor correction
March 11, 2010 at 9:14 am
An article on March 8 about labor endorsements in the Senate race originally misstated the number of Pennsylvania workers represented by the UAW, which endorsed Arlen Specter. It is more than 9,400, not more 140,000.
You can view all corrections by clicking on the Corrections tag.

March 10, 2010 at 11:31 pm
Mark Critz’s staunchest critic might be out of the race, but that doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods.
The candidate who Barbara Hafer lambasted as un-vetted is facing scrutiny over a meeting he apparently attended in 2005 that led to an earmark for defense contractors, an earmark that eventually led to convictions. CQ Politics reports that Critz represented his late boss John Murtha at the meeting, though it’s far from clear…

My City Paper cover story about Arlen Specter hits newsstands Thursday. But it’s on the newspaper’s Web site now.
It’s far, far too long to even bother excerpting parts of it for you.
Enjoy.
Full StoryLEFTOVERS: Trivedi writes back, another DFA chapter for Hoeffel, petition signatures galore
March 9, 2010 at 11:39 pm
Democrat Manan Trivedi has written back in response to Doug Pike’s call for a clean campaign, essentially saying: We’re already doing that buddy.
In a letter to Pike Tuesday, Trivedi said he was already running his campaign on “basic tenets of integrity.”
“I will continue to run an honest and truthful campaign focused on the vital issues important to families struggling in this economy,” Trivedi wrote. “I will present my ideas and qualifications…

March 8, 2010 at 11:30 pm
Doug Pike tried for something of ceasefire Monday—and his primary opponent’s response basically amounted to, “we’ll get back to ya, but probably not.”
Pike, one of two Democrats seeking the party’s nod in the 6th Congressional District, cited a report from our buddies at PoliticsPA that noted the contest between him and Manan Trivedi could become one of the “nastiest” primaries of the year (we agree, by the way).
“That would be a real disservice…
Full StoryLEFTOVERS: More Rangel money, Rendell on Corbett’s head, the Dem holdouts on health care
March 7, 2010 at 11:56 pm
A busy weekend in western Pennsylvania sure makes it hard keep up.
Charles Rangel may have resigned his House Ways & Means chairmanship, but that doesn’t mean Democrats are free of Republican attacks about him. Congresswoman Kathy Dahlkemper (D-3) appears to be the favored target as of late, because unlike many other Democrats, she hasn’t given back or donated campaign contribution from Rangel or his affiliated political action committees. One of her potential GOP opponents,…

DELMONT—Good morning, political junkies. We’re set up here at the Lamplighter Restaurant with Pittsburgh-based pa2010.com reporter John Manganaro. The candidates are here, committee people and other voting delegates are seated. This will be sort of a live-blog-lite, to allow us time to move around the room.
Stay tuned.
10:06—They’re asking people to get seated, but still waiting for some more delegates. We’ve spoken to Ryan Bucchianeri, Ed Cernic Jr., Barbara Hafer and Mark Critz.
10:18—An…
