State Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) was no longer running for Congress when the Chester County GOP met to make an endorsement in the race on Saturday. But his presence in the race was still very much felt.
About five weeks after he dropped out of the 6th District race in the wake of incumbent Jim Gerlach’s surprise decision to see reelection, Schroder still netted about a quarter of the endorsements votes…

Schroder had raised $186K before leaving 6th District race
Before Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) decided to seek reelection, one of the Republicans who had hoped to succeed him was on his way to building a fundraising base.
State Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester), who dropped out of the race shortly after Gerlach got back into it, had raised about $186,000 by the end of last year, according to campaign finance data. He had about $127,000 in cash on hand.
Only the…

Schroder drops out of 6th District race (Updated)
State Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) withdrew from the contest in the 6th District late Monday, making him the latest Republican whose congressional aspirations were cut short by incumbent Jim Gerlach’s decision to seek reelection.
Schroder had briefly signaled that he might stay in the race even if Gerlach ran again, but a two-sentence statement from his campaign Monday evening ended his candidacy. “Curt Schroder has ended his campaign for the 6th…

More political analysis from Ryan Costello
We’re beginning to really enjoy Ryan Costello’s punditry on the 6th Congressional District. You’ll recall that Costello, the Chester County Recorder of Deeds, got out of the Republican primary in that race long before incumbent Jim Gerlach changed his mind and said he’d seek reelection last week. When we bumped into him in New York last month, he was kind enough to share his thoughts on the…

Gerlach seeking reelection for a 5th term
A day after withdrawing from the race for governor, Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) announced Friday that he was seeking reelection to his House seat, increasing Republican hopes of holding the 6th District and setting up another fierce battle between Gerlach and the Democrats in southeastern Pennsylvania.
His announcement had been widely expected even before he formally ended his gubernatorial campaign. In a statement, Gerlach said he represented the “best chance for Republicans to not only…

Cohen: Gerlach’s been ‘an outstanding congressman’
Like all the other Republicans running in the 6th Congressional District, Howard Cohen says he’s waiting on Jim Gerlach before deciding what to do. Cohen, a former Revenue Secretary in the Thornburgh administration, had nothing but praise for Gerlach shortly after the incumbent congressman dropped out of the governor’s race Thursday. He is likely seeking reelection.
“Jim Gerlach has been an outstanding Congressman serving the citizens of the Pennsylvania Sixth District, …

Schroder sees ‘DC-style earmarks’ in table games bill
As legislation authorizing table games in Pennsylvania gained long-awaited passage Wednesday night, state Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) had harsh words for appropriation provisions in the bill, expected to be signed by Gov. Ed Rendell Thursday.
Speaking of annual appropriations for a handful of local schools, hospitals and other entities, Schroder, a Republican candidate in the 6th Congressional District said that “we are seeing Washington, D.C.-style earmarks under the guise of local impact.”
“Just because a…

Former congressman endorses Schroder
State Representative Curt Schroder’s (R-Chester) campaign announced Wednesday that it had been endorsed by former Congressman Bob Walker, adding to a slew of current and former lawmakers who are backing Schroder in the 6th Congressional District.
Walker, who served in Congress for 20 years until 1997 and attended Schroder’s campaign kick-off event Monday night, said Schoder’s candidacy offers “the chance to send a true champion to Washington.” Walker said he “could not think of anyone…

Schroder welcomes all PA-6 candidates… except Welch
NEW YORK—It’s clear that state Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) will continue to make an issue of primary opponent Steven Welch’s residency, as he keeps up an attack line against the man seen by some as the candidate with the best chance of beating him.
In an interview with pa2010.com during Congressman Charlie Dent’s reception here Saturday afternoon, with Welch about 25 feet away, Schroder said he’s glad to see so many candidates running in the…

Costello calls the primary he exited a ‘free-for-all’
NEW YORK—Now that he’s no longer running for the Republican nomination in the 6th Congressional District, Chester County Recorder of Deeds Ryan Costello is free to pontificate on the political landscape unfettered.
Asked by pa2010.com to offer his analysis, Costello said he sees state Representative Curt Schroder (R-Chester) and businessman Steven Welch as the two favorites. And the contrast between them, he said, shows a sort of double-edged sword in electoral politics. Candidates in Montgomery…
