The Franklin & Marshall College poll released Thursday didn’t just show Republicans leading in both of Pennsylvania’s statewide races. The survey also contained a litany of troubling data points for Democrats a couple months before Election Day.
Among the troublesome signs for Democrats:
•Almost 60 percent of Pennsylvanians say the state is heading in the wrong direction, while the 30 percent of residents who say things are moving in the right…

LEFTOVERS: Trivedi strikes back, Rendell the pundit, get ready to laugh
The feuding continued Monday in the 6th Congressional District, when Democrat Manan Trivedi rounded up some military veterans to speak out against Congressman Jim Gerlach (R-6) in a new Web video.
You might remember that last week Gerlach called out Trivedi for not having lived in the suburban Philadelphia district for years. For some of that time, Trivedi was a Navy doctor in Iraq. So Trivedi’s campaign called it a slight against his military service.…

LEFTOVERS: Corbett on Rendell, Sestak donates, headlines in the 7th
The drive to make the governor’s race a referendum on Ed Rendell continues for Tom Corbett. The GOP nominee this week cast the blame for the state’s unemployment rate squarely on the lame-duck Democratic governor’s shoulders.
“In the last eight years our state budget has gone from $22 billion to $28 billion,” Corbett said during an appearance in Chester County, according to The Morning Call. “And what’s…

LEFTOVERS: Rendell on Obama, Gerlach gives to NRCC, vulnerable seats
President Obama is about to go on “The View”—but Gov. Ed Rendell thinks that’s not such a good idea because the president should only do “serious shows.”
“I think the president should be accessible, should answer questions that aren’t pre-screened, but I think there should be a little bit of dignity to the presidency,” Rendell said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
We’re assuming Rendell’s rule doesn’t apply to governors, considering that the former Philadelphia mayor is…

Rendell: Corbett is ‘totally out of touch’
Gov. Ed Rendell joined the rest of his party in criticizing Attorney General Tom Corbett’s much-publicized jobs gaffe on Monday, saying the GOP gubernatorial hopeful is “totally out of touch with what ordinary people are dealing with every day.”
Rendell’s comments, reported by The Patriot-News, came more than a week after Corbett said that “the jobs are there” and that some unemployed are staying jobless to collect…

GOP tries to hang Rendell around Onorato’s neck
If there were any doubts about how Republicans want to define the race for governor, they were recently laid to rest: The GOP wants to make the contest a referendum on Gov. Ed Rendell, and to tie Democratic nominee to the unpopular, term-limited governor at every turn.
That strategy, already an obvious choice for months, burst into clear view during the state party’s summer dinner in Hershey last month. Speakers at the dinner excoriated the…

Rendell: Onorato is the ‘underdog’
Gov. Ed Rendell still thinks that the race to succeed him is Tom Corbett’s to lose.
The term-limited Rendell had already once said that Corbett, the Republican Attorney General, is “probably the favorite” in the race against Democrat Dan Onorato. In an interview with Politico, Rendell, who is expected to campaign hard for Onorato, called Corbett a “tough candidate to beat.” He said Onorato’s prospects are better because Corbett “unnecessarily” tacked…

State GOP head wants ‘Jobgate’ answers
Jobgate continues, and the latest “target” is Gov. Ed Rendell.
State GOP chairman Rob Gleason has filed a Right-to-Know request seeking any correspondence between Rendell and White House officials that pertains to the White House’s efforts to keep Joe Sestak out of the Democratic Senate primary. The White House and Sestak have said that former President Bill Clinton was dispatch only to dangle an unpaid position. Rendell has said he spoke with White House chief…

LEFTOVERS: Toomey on Kagan, Rendell on Sesak, the Chamber for Dent
Republican Senate hopeful Pat Toomey supported President Obama’s first Supreme Court pick. He hasn’t made up his mind about the second.
After backing Sonia Sotomayor last year, Toomey said he’s withholding judgment until taking in her confirmation hearings. “Every once in a while it would be refreshing if politicians did less talking and more listening,” Toomey told PoliticsPA. “I look forward to listening to Ms. Kagan’s testimony, and to learning more…

Rendell loves The Campaign Group—but still hates the ad
PHILADELPHIA—Gov. Ed Rendell sure had a lot to say about The Campaign Group in the days before and after last week’s Senate primary. To any cable pundits that would listen, Rendell would say the Philadelphia-based consulting shop, which counts him as a client, was basically the only reason Joe Sestak stood on the precipice of victory. He would call it “my ad agency,” and say hiring media gurus Neil Oxman, Doc Sweitzer and J.J. Balaban…
